Lethal Pursuit - Bagram Ops #3 - Kaylea Cross - Release: September 16, 2013
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Security Forces Lieutenant Maya Lopez is right at home in a war zone: she's been fighting all her life. A hard-won commission in the air force has brought her to Afghanistan, and if she plays her cards right, she could end up with an FBI job. It won't be easy, but that just makes her more determined.
Jackson Thatcher is a protector in all senses of the word. A pararescue jumper with Southern-boy charm, he easily captures Maya's interest, but her trust is another story. He's sexy, strong and caring, but she makes it clear she's no damsel in distress. She's never relied on any man, and she's not about to start now.
When Maya and Jackson become pawns in a radical warlord's deadly game, they find themselves on the run and must depend on each other if they want to make it out alive.
MY REVIEW:
Amazing. Truly and utterly amazing. Have I mentioned amazing yet?
Cross has done it again with her addition to the Bagram Special Ops series, Lethal Pursuit.
I’ve been waiting for Lt Lopez’s book, and Cross didn’t disappoint in that wait. The writing was on par and very description. The action was gripping and suspenseful. The heat generated was enough to call for ice. And the love story was gut wrenchingly beautiful.
Cross developed two characters that, even though they are fiction, create a lasting impression on the reader’s mind. These two will stick with you for days—perhaps weeks—after you’ve finished the book. In fact, the story really never ends for you.
If you want high-class; you got it.
If you want lusty scenes; you got it.
If you want something memorable to read; go get it.
Five out of five stars.

Take Over at Midnight - ML Buchman - Release: December 3, 2013
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Lola LaRue, Chief Warrant Officer of the U.S. Army's secret helicopter regiment, is a natural at everything except relationships. She's a professional in the air but she screws up every time she touches the ground.
Sergeant "Crazy" Tim Maloney is a goner the moment he first sees LaRue on a mission to deliver a Delta Force team into the Iranian Desert. He's always been a 'love 'em and leave 'em' kind of guy, but all that changes when Lola's in danger. Now with the stakes higher than ever, they must find a way to eliminate a threat that could destroy more than just their future.
MY REVIEW:
I have enjoyed this series by M.L. Buchman immensely. Buchman manages to create some pretty good romance in the most unusual of circumstances. I mean, where else or who else would want to find love—not just sexual attraction—out in the middle eastern desert, under less than favorable conditions, while working twelve, sometimes sixteen hour shifts?
Doesn’t sound very attractive does it?
Well Buchman manages to go beyond the regular story of boy meets girl and together they fall in love. His stories are always engaging, descriptive, and on par for pure action. Take Over at Midnight was no different. At as a bonus, at the end there was a nice addition into just what inspired the author to develop this piece of romantic fiction.
Sometimes the writing was a bit off to me, but it was more so on a character base, which is why I took it down a star. I would have loved to given it five, but for some reason Lola really just didn’t do it for me in this book, and came off as a bit self-centered at times. I know we don’t always want to have perfect characters in books, but for Lola, I almost didn’t like her.
Even so, I adored this couple falling for one another. I would have liked to see them both work a bit harder at showing the falling in love, but I was well beyond pleased with the action and suspense in this read. Great job. Four out of five stars and hearty recommendation for a weekend read.

MY REVIEW:
I’m surprised my frustration with how much I really wanted to like this book, didn’t end up blowing up my computer. The storyline given in the blurb really drew me into it. Hey, what’s better than two people with so much angst and the power to destroy one another falling in love? The characters set, the scene in place, and the story raring to go only ended up falling … flat.
I found the characters were built up very well; however, a lot of it was almost repetitious. The shocking secrets really were shocking, but there could have been so much more. I tried to figure out just what it was as I kept reading and I ended up toward the end identifying it. This author has a very distinct style of writing, but one many ‘newer’ authors end up having to learn. She tells the reader how the character is feeling, and doesn’t paint the scene to show it.
Unfortunately, as a result of that style, I ended up not caring about the characters at all. For something so strong, and a story line so adult, the way the characters dealt with everything seemed very immature. There were a few holes in the plot that frustrated me, and in the end, I had to force myself to finish the story. But hey, that’s the plus.
I know, I know, not the best review or even something the author would be happy with. And hey, I get how hard and how much work publishing a book can cost someone, but my opinion is only one. With previous reviews, the fans are able to overlook those facts and that should be what counts. J
Two out of five stars—wish it could have been more—and best wishes to the author for a new fabulous book.

Ghost Planet - Sharon Fisher - Release: October 30, 2012
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Psychologist Elizabeth Cole prepared for the worst when she accepted a job on a newly discovered world—a world where every colonist is tethered to an alien who manifests in the form of a dead loved one. But she never expected she'd struggle with the requirement to shun these "ghosts." She never expected to be so attracted to the charming Irishman assigned as her supervisor. And she certainly never expected to discover she died in a transport crash en route to the planet.
As a ghost, Elizabeth is symbiotically linked to her supervisor, Murphy—creator of the Ghost Protocol, which forbids him to acknowledge or interact with her. Confused and alone—oppressed by her ghost status and tormented by forbidden love—Elizabeth works to unlock the secrets of her own existence.
But her quest for answers lands her in a tug-of-war between powerful interests, and she soon finds herself a pawn in the struggle for control of the planet…a struggle that could separate her forever from the man that she loves.
REVIEW:
WOW – I wasn’t expecting THAT story when I opened this book, but I was sure in for a surprise and a pleasant one at that.
Ms. Fisher has an extremely talented way with words. The entire story captivated and drew me in to the point to where I didn’t want to put it down.
I loved the character development and found the budding romance as good as the plot working its way through. This piece is a very original piece and even though I’m not a huge fan of science fiction, Ms. Fisher has made a believer out of me.
Kudos to her for a great piece and I look forward to reading more by her.
Four and a half stars out of five for a job well done.

A Gentleman Undone - Cecilia Grant - Release date: May 29, 2012
About the book: A seductive beauty turns the tables on a gentleman
gaming for the guiltiest of pleasures in this rich and sensual Regency romance
from beloved newcomer Cecilia Grant.
Lydia Slaughter understands the games men play—both in and out of the bedroom. Not afraid to bend the rules to suit her needs, she fleeces Will Blackshear outright. The Waterloo hero had his own daring agenda for the gaming tables of London's gentlemen's clubs. But now he antes up for a wager of wits and desire with Lydia, the streetwise temptress who keeps him at arm's length.
A kept woman in desperate straits, Lydia has a sharp mind with a head for numbers. She gambles on the sly, hoping to win enough to claim her independence. An alliance with Will at the tables may be a winning proposition for them both. But the arrangement involves dicey odds with rising stakes, sweetened with unspoken promise of fleshly delights. And any sleight of hand could find their hearts betting on something neither can afford to risk: love.
Review: A historical with an intriguing twist. While I’m not normally a fan of historical, Ms. Grant managed to pull me into her world and get caught up in the whirlwind romance between Lydia and Will.
Will was ever the gentleman throughout the book until he reached the point of no return. He humbles the readers by providing a different insight into just what happens when you care for someone and that someone tries like hell to fight just how they feel for you in return. These two are such a piece made to fit and you see it from the very beginning. The romance was on par between these two and even then there was suspense in uncovering just what would happen between the two of them and a mystery of resolve.
Ms. Grant drew me in until I was caught up, tied into just what the characters were doing next. I would definitely recommend this read to anyone looking for a change in the industry and a bit of freshness to go along. It is unlike any other romance I’ve seen out there but written just as well. Four out of five stars for this sweet, scorching read.
